One of the most important aspects of financial planning is to ensure that you have made suitable provisions for your family and loved ones in the event of a serious illness/injury, or untimely death.

When it comes to family protection, you have a wide range of different products to choose from.  Having advice that you can trust to help navigate this complex marketplace gives you peace of mind, particularly given the potentially serious financial consequences for you and your family.

How much life insurance cover do I need?

This really depends on your circumstances and the type of protection you are looking for.

For example, you could be looking to cover the mortgage debt, any other additional debts, or provide a lump sum for your loved ones to maintain their standard of living.

There is no ‘one-size-fits all’ solution, and the amount of cover – as well as the policy term, will vary depending on your personal circumstances.

What is Critical Illness cover?

A critical illness policy is a type of insurance that will provide a tax-free lump sum in the event that you are diagnosed with, or undergo surgery for a critical illness. If you are dealing with a serious illness in your family, worrying about the finances will only add to the stress you are facing. By having critical illness cover in place, that financial worry is eased.

Can I protect my income?

What would you do if you were unable to work due to a long-term illness or injury? How would you provide for your loved ones? It is possible to protect you and your loved ones against the loss of income through illness or injury.  If you cannot work through ill health, or injury, an income protection policy will lessen the impact that this will have.  Income protection will provide a monthly income (usually around 60 percent of your salary) until you are healthy enough to return to work. Some insurance providers go further than this, and offer a range of services to support your mental and physical health - usually at no extra cost.

There are a range of products available, in addition to the ones mentioned, each with different benefits and costs. One of our experienced independent financial advisers will be able to talk you through the options available, and help you find the right policy/policies, for you and your family.
