Deciding what to do after A levels can be a difficult choice with so many options available. We have outlined some considerations below on whether to apply for apprenticeships or a degree.

Apprenticeship

  • Gain qualifications – most apprenticeships offer a formal qualification to work towards while you are employed. At Lovewell Blake we employ school levers on an AAT apprenticeship contract, which they will complete during their employment.
  • You’ll earn more – be paid from day one!
  • Practical work experience – you’ll be able to put your studying into practice by applying it to client work.
  • Job opportunities – a permanent position is often available after the completion of many apprenticeships and you’ll have more experience to offer employers

University

  • Learn in a lecture/seminar environment – by choosing a relevant degree you’ll learn the theory before putting into practice.
  • University life – going to university is not just about the academic side of things. It offers you the option to move away from home and gain independence. There are lots of sport clubs and societies to join, providing you a platform to make lifelong friends.
  • Degrees are still valued – in some professions it is essential to have a degree and may give you access to certain graduate programmes. However, to pursue a career in accountancy this is not the case. Lovewell Blake recruits for AAT trainees on an apprenticeship basis.

Come to our trainee insight evenings running across our Norwich and Lowestoft offices throughout October to find out more information about our AAT and graduate schemes.
